Cranston Park Khismet;

They say you only ever have one extra special mare in your life, well they are wrong, I have been fortunate to have had two wonderful mares who have shared their lives with me.

Khismet was born at Cranston Park Sydney in 1990. A tall rather plain looking foal, with an amazing structure, wonderful long forearms, beautiful eyes – you know the story, she was just beautiful.

Doug and I were managers of the farm, when the owner decided to put Khismet up for purchase,  she just didn’t fit the mould of the other mares on the farm. She was very quickly purchased by Darleen and Rob Howie. We showed Khismet for Darleen and Rob as a young horse with some success, when the farm closed we were asked to take Khismet along with us and jumped at the chance.  She came to Queensland to live. At a limited number of shows, Khismet was always in the ribbons. A highlight was the Supreme female of the Queensland State Championships Challenge show under an American judge, defeating a wonderful line up of senior mares. Khismet looked spectacular, serene and regal.

It was extremely hard when Darleen, a young woman with a very young family, lost her battle with cancer. Darleen went to sleep watching footage of her Khismet, being a wonderful mother proudly running free with her first foal. Khismet was to stay with us, Rob leased her into our names for a life time agreement, he knew this is what Darleen would have wanted, knowing her beloved Khismet would have a safe, loving, caring home for ever.

The gentlest of mares, Khismets foals have been quite spectacular. Her first a grey filly, was by the then recently imported USA liver chestnut stallion, SK Shakla Khan. Khandescent has now gone on to produce Show champions for her new owner Sarah Steel.

For a 1996 foal Khismet was bred to another American import the stallion Alii, by

Ruminaja Ali.  The resulting colt was gelded; Ali Looyah was awarded Supreme Junior Gelding at his first show.

In 1997 a second daughter, the wonderful moving bay Khabouchon was born. Khabouchon is now in foal to the Abu Shaklan Australian Champion son, Symbolik. Due this coming September Khabouchons foal will be the first of Symboliks youngsters. Khabouchon has a daughter to Abu Shaklan, Khabush who greatly resembles her dam, and is equally as exciting to watch in full flight. Both Khabouchon and Khabush are retained by the farm.

In 1997 Khismet was bred for the first time to Abu Shaklan. We had been waiting patiently for him to grow up, and were really excited with the dreams of the resulting progeny from this mating.

Visarge was the image of what we had expected; he was the image of his sire at a few months old. He very quickly turned from chestnut to grey; Visarge was sold to Michael and Jenny Cergnulli when he was four months old. At his first show at 6months old, Visarge shown by Doug, under the British judge Peter Gamlin, was awarded Champion Junior exhibit. At the same show, later in the evening his sire Abu Shaklan was announced Supreme Stallion or Colt.  Visarge defeated a colt that then sold to Europe and was shown with outstanding success. Visarge was placed top five East Coast Championships as a yearling in a large class under C. Jammer Deermussen (Belgium).

Visarge, herd sire for Cheznous Arabians. Queensland.

Hoping to get a female version of Visarge, Khismet was rebred to Abu. When the huge chestnut gelding Ahmazin was born, I really couldn’t believe my eyes, he was stunning. Born in 1999 Ahmazin too was shown at 7 months for Grand Champion Junior Champion Gelding, at the Qld. Challenge show under John Rannenburg. (USA) in 2000 Ahmazin was Reserve Champion Gelding, Top of the Range. Joe Polo. (USA)

2003 - Senior Champion Gelding and Supreme Gelding, Queensland Challenge.

The stunningly beautiful colt, Arhbu.

Sire for Lara Dawn Arabians. Queensland.

Surely the next foal would be a filly by Abu; he had daughters born all over Australia but not to our beautiful Khismet. In 2000 another absolutely breathtaking colt was born, Arhbu. This colt is possibly the best foal I have ever seen born, he took my breath away, I could not stop admiring him. I could visualize his show career every time I looked at him. One of his most prominent features where his huge, extreme eyes, so wide apart, so huge I would stand behind him and he could see me with both eyes without moving his head a fraction, it was fabulous to watch him watching me. They also say pride comes before a fall, and as it so happened just to bring me back to earth, Arhbu lost an eye in a paddock accident when he was three months of age. This stunning, silver replica of Abu, this wonderful gentle sole, now had a bleak future. He lived his life in a paddock without any problems, although I was always worried he may injure the other eye, then I would have to put him down. I had plans of gelding him and keeping him to ride, but he would never see the showring. When he was 4 years old, I had to make a decision; I didn’t want to keep him as a stallion as his dad was in the next paddock and felt it wouldn’t be fair for this beautiful horse to lead a frustrating life. Then entered Marie Hansel, Marie had bred to Abu over two years and always admired Arhbu, when I told her of my plans to geld, she very quickly asked if he would be available for purchase. I knew it was a good, caring, safe home so didn’t hesitate. Marie was almost due to give birth to her daughter, and Arhbu who had never left the farm treated her so carefully, so kindly. Each morning as she led him to his paddock he lowered his beautiful head, and sniffed and nuzzled her growing belly. Arhbu now has his own band of broodmares, and his first sons and daughters have been born.

Khismet gave us another grey colt born in 2001.Xanabuu, bold, big and another beautiful baby. From the day he stood I decided he was going to be my show gelding. Hopefully my Australian champion gelding, so I told my friends.

XANABUU, 2005

AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL ARABIAN CHAMPION.

 2 & 3YEAR INTERMEDIATE GELDING.

Xanabuu was shown as a youngster for many champions,  as a yearling Xan was taken to Victoria and his first show down south, Xan was awarded Supreme Gelding of show, defeating past Australian Champions and multi champion geldings. The Victorian State Championships proved to be a unique and incredibly exciting show; all three major awards were won by Abu Shaklan progeny. Supreme Mare or Filly- Razara Eleganza, Supreme Gelding – Xanabuu and Supreme Stallion or colt of the show – Malabu.

The following is Xans show record, quite impressive by anyone’s standards.

When my niece and partner came to stay with us for a holiday, they fell in love with the sweet kind gelding, and Xans life is now one of leisure. He had a freak accident last year, but it is hopeful that one day he may return to the arena. Until then he is keeping guard over Elana while she wait for the birth of her first child this coming September.

The first hello, Xan, Elana and Ron.

Xanabuu, Khismets last foal.

A true reflection of both his Sire and Dam.

Xanabuu is the last of the Khismet progeny, it seems she feels she has done her bit and her best. Although I am terribly disappointed not to have a Khismet x  Abu daughter, the foal I have dreamed of since Abu was born in my paddock, I am no way disappointed in Khismet and the magnificent horses she has given us. The quality, the conformation of these beautiful and kind loving animals have all grown into, is definitely something to be proud of. I am so pleased they have found loving homes where they are respected , and have become a major part of their new family’s lives.

Thankyou  beautiful Khismet.

Devenward Sarda;

I was very fortunate to secure Sarda to breed to Abu. From the first moment I saw her in the showring I had to know who she was. She had a look about her, I had to have a closer look and to find out her breeding. I didn't know at the time, but, Sarda is owned by Marie Hansell from Laradawn Arabians, a friend who has already bred twice to Abu. After some sweet talking I was able to lease, until I get a filly foal, not an easy task for me, everyone else gets the fillies!  Until now!

Early in September 2006 the beautiful Sarda presented us with the stunning grey filly we have longed for.

Abu and Sarda's pedigree should compliment each other beautifully, it was only when studying the

pedigree I discovered that I knew her stunningly exotic grandam, Ahsaba (Moon Fashion x al Sakbar)

when she came to the stud that we were managing to be bred.  This filly is true to her fabulous pedigree and I am looking forward to her future show career.

Helen Wilson -

Tottenham Park's association with Abu Shaklan began in 1996 when we began a search for a stallion to compliment our senior broodmare Ravenswood Rifqat.

Her first Abu baby in September 1997, a chestnut colt named Ta'abu who had everything we were looking for.

                                                       Ta'abu, at 6 months.

A full sibling was born the following 1998. A grey filly was born while I watched her father receive yet another Supreme award at a show just a few miles away. Ta'rifiq, her stable name - Elle, was beautiful. This filly was everything we were looking for and more, she was the most stunning baby I have ever bred (and still is). Elle has been retained by the stud, successfully shown from a weanling with wins in both Qld and Vic, the later while leased by Monica DeGraaf. Her most recent win, the 2006 Australian Arabian Championships in Toowoomba - where she was awarded Top 10 Australian Mare.

                                                     Ta'rifiq at just 6months.

                                                                          Ta'rifiq at 2years.

                                                         2006 AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL ARABIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS,

                                                                                 TOP TEN MARE, TA'RIFIQ.

Tottenham Park Etosha another is another of the full siblings. This young mare has sold to become a very competitive and successful endurance horse with her new owners Rob & Julie Sutton completing in 60, 80 & 100klm rides with ease.

Breeding for us was then put on hold for a couple of years. 2003 Lizzie was rebred to Abu and in September 2004 after going 4 weeks overdue, she gave birth to a leggy, pretty chestnut colt who has since been gelded and named Na'Sadiq (means our friend) by his new owners Rob & Julie who were so impressed with Etosha they had to have another! He will be their next up and coming endurance prospect.

In September 2006, a very lovely bay colt, recently gelded making FIVE full siblings. Just recently we were fortunate to have the winning bid on a service donated to the Challenge Show committee, and yes, it was for Abu Shaklan. A huge compliment to the wonderful horses this mating consistently produces. To have raised and known these horses, to watch them develop into wonderful people loving horses, has given me an enormous amount of pleasure and pride to have my name as breeder.

Ta'Rifiq has now joined the broodmare band for us this year and we look forward to seeing this Abu Shaklan daughter produce her own lovely babies.

 Magdalena
Amir el Shaklan x Joda Adela (Simeon Sanegor)

Magdalena was purchased into the Provis - Rutherford partnership during 2000, believing it would be a good mating. The decision has been well and truly justified with these outstanding resulting youngsters.

The first foal born in 2001 was the grey colt  Symbolik.  "The Bloody Shouldered Colt" who at his first venture into the large shows, was awarded 2003 Champion Yearling Colt at the East Coast Championships. The following week, Symbolik was awarded Australian National Champion Yearling Colt.

SYMBOLIK,  AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL ARABAIN CHAMPION 2003 - AND EAST COAST CHAMPION.

Symbolik won many Champion and Supreme awards at major shows in both Queensland and Victoria. He will return to the show arena in the next few years. His much first foals are due this season. Symbolik is owned by the Provis - Rutherford partnership.

Madalena’s second foal to Abu was the beautiful grey filly, Barring Court Ivory. This grey filly has been sold with a Endurance career in mind.

Barring Court Ivory.

IKHON  as a weanling.

In 2003- Ikhon a super grey gelding who eluded a show career while Julie was busy looking after her own precious new arrival, her baby son Bailey. Ikhon has since sold to south Australian endurance home.

After a few years rest, in 2006 Magdalena’s produced another colt, Emblem (pnd) now a stunning chestnut gelding. We are looking forward to Emblems show debut this coming season.

    And a future star, Emblem.
